On leaving the Royal Navy after 9 years, I moved into the education sector working with special needs children. It was during my time in this position that I was being continually asked to purchase items of play equipment. It was then that I realised that I could make better quality items, developed around those children’s needs and at a more budgeable price, rather than the over inflated high street prices. This made sense to me as I was aware of the lack of provision in school budgets, especially with nurseries.
Our products soon started to become popular with childminders and home learners too and this opened up a new avenue for us. That is basically where we are now! The Scotts Country team has now expanded and this has given us the opportunity to develop new items all the time. Scotts Country is our family and there is no better way to work in my opinion. I love what we do, what we create and take great pride in supplying direct to our customers.
I have a very supportive wife and we have 3 grown up children.
I am a mum to 4 children, watching them grow up I realised that there was a lack of well made and affordable play and educational equipment. Having worked with primary aged children and young people with special needs, it highlighted this need even further.
After meeting Shawn many years ago, I found that he had a passion for woodwork and his passion and creativity showed in his work. We have also helped support special needs children with work experience at Scotts Country Ltd.
Since starting the business, I have moved from the admin and office side of things to the workshop where I am able to help develop and make all of our products alongside Shawn.
I have worked here for 3 months and I work alongside Shawn in the workshop. I really enjoy learning woodcraft and seeing the products we create every day. I also help with developing new products and creating new ideas for our customers. I struggled in college and didn’t feel like I fitted in, Scotts Country gave me the opportunity to learn a trade in a family environment, where I enjoy coming into work every day.
I currently work in a primary school and I volunteer my spare time to help try and build this business that I am strongly passionate about. Being a mum to two young children, it gives me great pride in being able to help schools, nurseries or just people like me who are looking for quality products but at affordable prices.
I have previously worked for large global companies as a coordinator, focusing on sales and marketing. Most recently, I have worked in the education sector caring for children from 3 months through to primary age including children with special needs.
